Oils carrying the ILSAC rating must meet the oil standards set by the International Lubricant Standardization and Approval Committee (ILSAC). They are denoted by a GF rating prefix (such as GF3, GF4, GF5 etc). ILSAC also requires specific testing to prove improved engine energy efficiency. Typically, ILSAC ratings are applied to low viscosity oils such as 0W-20, 5W-20, 0W-30, 5W-30 and 10W-30.
Caution! Use of these low viscosity oils in older model engines, and engines not specifically designed for such oils, may result in oil consumption and engine durability problems.
I think most of oil marketing companies in Pakistan are not claiming ILSAC specs, as it take care of mostly fuel economy. Keeping in view of ambient temperature here such low viscosity oils like 0W-20 or 5W-20 are not recommended to use. Mostly 10W-30 or 5W-40 or 10W-40 oils are good to use in new cars in API SN or SM performance. 5W-50 is thick oil like 20W-50 and can be used in bit old engines.
