This Equus is Hyundai’s new $50K-plus luxury flagship, and is not to be confused with Equus the play.

Without Cachet, Go for Value
The Equus certainly won’t have the cachet of its stated competitors when it arrives at U.S. dealerships, so what will it have in its corner? Well, price for one. Exact pricing hasn’t been released yet, but Hyundai says the car will start in the mid-$50,000 range, undercutting the LS by about $10,000 and the S550 by more than $35,000. All Equus models will use a six-speed automatic hooked to Hyundai’s 4.6-liter DOHC “Tau” V-8; the engine will make 385 hp when fed premium fuel, 378 when given a diet of regular. (The V-8 makes a maximum of 375 hp in the Genesis sedan.) Torque stands at 333 or 324 lb-ft depending on fuel. The company points out that the 385-horse figure beats the power ratings of both the aforementioned Lexus and Mercedes. Hyundai anticipates EPA fuel-economy ratings of 16 mpg in the city and 24 on the highway, a loss of 1 mpg in both the city and highway cycles compared to the lighter and smaller Genesis.
