Sony & Honda’s Joint EV Prototype Revealed at CES 2023

Japanese multinational conglomerates Sony and Honda’s joint venture “Sony Honda Mobility (SHM), seem geared up to stand toe to toe with next-generation electric cars. The venture unveiled a prototype at CES 2023 in Las Vegas under the banner of its new brand dubbed ‘Afeela’.

Driving power from Qualcomm’s “Snapdragon” digital chassis, car offers more style and higher-end luxury elements. Smooth body and blacked-out roof add more to the style and design.

Sony Honda Mobility CEO Yashuhide Mizuno informed the show:

“Afeela represents our concept of an interactive relationship where people feel the sensation of interactive mobility and where mobility can detect and understand people and society by utilizing sensing and AI technologies.”

According to reports, Afeela’s electric car will compete with the likes of premium cars like Mercedes-Benz, Volvo, Audi, and BMW in terms of price, performance, and tech. It further informed that Sony would work on the car’s sensors, UI, and screens, whilst Honda would handle the mechanical development.

Coming to the basic question, when it will join the chorus of international electric cars? It will be available for bookings before 2025 conclude. Moreover, US customers will get the car first in early 2026, whereas Japanese will enjoy the drive in the second half of the same year.

The company has reported that initially car will be manufactured at Honda’s factory in North America. Coming to the design of EV, the company stated:

“The design of this prototype aims to create a new value standard for mobility. As we reach an inflection point where the elements of a car is shifting from power and performance to software, networks, and user experiences, we reexamined the individuality and form of vehicle design up until now, and by further refining, we aimed to highlight the essential values and sublimate them into a pure and strong design.

    I have a Sony smartphone, currently they are still offering headplug jack in their high end phone, i wonder why it isn’t popular in the country ?
    Anyway this cars is as elegent as a Sony smartphone, it seem Sony want to diversify, more to compete against the like of apple car.
    Anyway do not buy electric.
