Punjab Govt Revised Orange Line Train Fares
The provincial government of Punjab has decided to revise the fares for Orange Line Metro Train. The Punjab cabinet has introduced five brackets under the new formula for the fare.
Provincial Transport Minister Muneeb Sultan Cheema mentioned the following brackets:
- Rs. 20 for 0 to 4 kilometers
- Rs. 25 for 5 to 8 kilometers
- Rs. 30 for 9 to 12 kilometers
- Rs. 35 for 13 to 16 kilometers
- Rs. 40 for the end-to-end journey (Ali Town to Dera Gujran)
The minister told the media that new fares would apply after the government’s official notification.
Meanwhile, Punjab Transit Authority (PMTA) is planning to issue fare reduction cards for working women and students. The authority has already issued such cards for senior citizens and disabled persons. The department’s official told an English newspaper: “We will introduce the distance-based fares in the first phase. As our arrangements were completed a few days ago, we wanted to implement the new system from November 18, but we couldn’t due to some departmental issues.”
The official said that the department would implement it in next two to three days. “In the 2nd phase, we will get the weekly and monthly discounted and free travelling cards prepared,” he said, adding that the cars will be issued to working women and students who will get a 30 percent discount in fares.
Second Anniversary of Orange Line Train
Last month, Orange Line Metro completed two years of its operations. The authorities held an anniversary ceremony at OLMT Main Depot at Dera Gujran to celebrate the occasion.
The Chinese Consul General attended the ceremony in Pakistan. The Chinese officials from the consulate were also present at the event, along with Punjab government officials, guests, and metro train employees. During the ceremony, the top performing employees were given special awards for their outstanding performance last year.
The attendees also held a special cake-cutting ceremony at the end of the event.
Addressing the ceremony, the CEO of OLMT, Li Chen, said that the Orange train has travelled approximately 25 million kilometers in the last two years of operations. “The metro has completed 200,000 safe trips with 99.99% punctuality,” Chen told the attendees.
