Due to ongoing issues in the import-based supply chain and production problems, Pak Suzuki has stopped the bookings of its bikes until further notice. This decision came amid back-to-back car production plant shutdowns by the company.

In a notice to its dealers, the company announced that the booking suspension would take effect from Friday (today).

Letter to Dealers Over Bike Bookings

The notice further read that under the present economic circumstances, import-based supply chain constraints, and uncertain production possibilities, we are unable to serve new customers. “We will, therefore, stop bookings of our motorcycles production from January 20, 2023, for the time being,” the company said, adding Suzuki bike bookings will resume as the situation becomes favourable to serve fresh customers.

Amid the current circumstances, the step by the company is not surprising as the auto industry is facing serious import, rupee depreciation, and market uncertainty issues. However, market experts also blame the company for accepting new orders as factories are being shut down, and raw materials are scarce in the market.

Suzuki Plant Shutdown

On January 13, 2023, extending the non-production days series, the automaker announced that there will be no assembly operations from January 16 to January 20 in the face of import restrictions inflicted by the State Bank of Pakistan. Earlier, the company kept its production shut from January 2 to January 13.

Former chairman of the Auto Parts Manufacturers Association (PAMA), Mashhood Khan, said that due to the temporary closure by the auto manufactures, the demand has almost scaled back to near zero. Since the beginning of this month, the auto industry has only worked two days per week. He stated that the situation does not bode well for the future and that both traders and industrialists are extremely concerned.

He further added that this downfall is primarily due to the shortage of dollars and the non-availability of imported goods. The auto industry, including the auto parts sector, has taken a huge hit due to the dying demand rate. This issue has forced the companies to work only a couple of days during the whole week.
