Only 100 in the World Vauxhall VX220 – A Walkaround
Vauxhall VX220 is the classic speedy car that is fun to drive and less luxurious but practical with its nimble drive and not-so-modern interior. There are only 100 VX220 found around the world in lime color, out of which we have got the number 23 in line in Pakistan. Currently in the modification phase, this is the antique roadster a real car enthusiast would want.
Vauxhall VX220 – Down to the legacy
To the curious ones, yes, the Vauxhall VX220 is the less glamorous cousin of the Lotus Elise with minimalism, practicality, and groundbreaking performance in highlights. It was manufactured as a part of a contra-deal between Lotus and General Motors but came off the same production line called Norfolk as the Lotus Elise. Amazingly, it shared only 10 percent of its parts with Lotus. However, it was named differently in other markets, such as Opel Speedster or Daewoo. Vauxhall is the oldest British car manufacturing company, which rolled off its first car in 1903.
Specs and Features
This one was a VX220 launched in 2000 and came up with a 2.2L natural aspirated engine. Later, its uplift was launched in 2003 with a Turbocharged 2L engine. The base variant produced 155bhp of power and 149lb-ft of torque with a 135mph top speed and an acceleration time from 0 to 60mph in 5.6 seconds.
It is a lightweight compact car weighing approximately 800 kg, sharing an aluminum chassis and suspension. However, most of its parts are made of carbon fiber to make it aerodynamically healthy. This rear-engine car also features a removable top, unique diffuser, McLaren-like dual exhausts, 16-inch tires, and a steering wheel similar to Evolution.
Performance
The VX220 was designed based on Lotus Elise’s philosophy of smart maneuvering and cross-handling. Having all the features of a go-kart, it was the best for a speedy and effortless driving experience, but its restricted cabin space makes the ingress and egress more challenging for the tall-heightened ones.
After 14 to 15 years of under-use, this VX220 is in the modification phase at a local dealership and will soon be rejuvenated to life. If you’re interested in reading more about classic cars and automotive trends, just visit PakWheels’ official website.
