3 4,186

The car under review is the tenth generation Honda Civic X five-door hatchback. This car is the SR VTEC Turbo model. This is an imported model, and it is imported from the UK. In the UK, Civic is available in the four-door sedan version as well as a five-door hatchback version. This car is in the price range of PKR 3 to 3.5 million. According to the owner, he has gone for the imported model as its quality and durability are better compared to the locally-manufactured Civic. This model also has sports trim both in the interior and on the exterior. Five-door Civic hatchback is also not available locally.

Exterior

The design language makes this car sporty, and it grabs attention on the road. The exterior language is dominated by smooth athletic lines. The car also has a low and aerodynamic profile. The car comes with 17-inch sports alloy rims. There are two spoilers at the back, and the front headlights are LED. Rain-sensing auto wipers are also provided in this car. Shark fin antenna is provided at the rear. Door handles and mirrors are body-colored. Chrome window garnish and privacy glass are included as standard in this car. LED Daytime Running Lights (DRLs), auto headlights, fog lights, headlight auto on/off timer, high beam support system (HSS), and LED taillights all come standard with this car.

Interior

The interior color scheme is black in this car, and it comes with black leather upholstery. This car comes with a Honda Connect 7-inch infotainment system. This system offers both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity. Other features include climate control with dual auto air conditioning, wireless charging, heated seats, motion-adaptive leather power steering, power windows, power, and heated mirrors, electronic parking brake with brake hold function, and paddle shifters. Glove box, ambient, sun visor vanity mirror, and courtesy lights are provided. HDMI and AUX connectivity with the infotainment system are also provided. The infotainment system also has AM/FM, internet radio, internet browsing, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto connectivity. Two USB ports and eight speakers are given in this car. Moreover, Hill Start Assist (HSA), idle stop, multi-info display, and shift indicator light are also available in this car.

Engine and Performance

The car comes with a 1.0L VTEC Turbo engine that produces 126 bhp and 200 Nm of torque. The engine is paired with a 6-speed manual transmission. This engine provides good fuel economy figures and returns more than 10 km/l inside the city and 8 km/l on the highway. The fuel efficiency can be improved by using the ECON mode. Despite having a 1.0L engine, this car does not feel underpowered by the owner. The oil change is done every 2500 to 3000 km, and each oil change costs around PKR 10,000.

Comfort and Handling

Adaptive cruise control makes the ride on longer journies comfortable and convenient. Other comfort features include remote power windows and mirrors (through key fob), accessory socket, lumbar support for driver seat, cargo net hook, luggage floor box, 60/40 rear bench split, rear armrest, rearview camera, sun visor vanity mirrors and tilt and telescopic steering wheel. The suspension is rather on the stiff side and can make the ride a bit less comfortable. Compared to the local variants of Honda Civic, this car is a bit lower to the ground, which can make it difficult to drive over speed breakers. There is no spare wheel in the car, and it comes with a tire repair kit. The seat cushion is, however, better than the locally-manufactured Civic.

Safety

As far as safety is concerned, there are six airbags in this car. Other safety features include lane assist, parking assist, collision mitigation system, deflation warning system, forward collision warning, intelligent speed limiter, road departure mitigation, traffic sign recognition system, ABS (Anti-Lock Braking System), EBS (Electronic Brakeforce Distribution) and VSA (Vehicle Stability Assist). Ultrasonic alarm and immobilizer are also given in this car. ISOFIX child seat mountings are provided on the rear seats. Front and rear seat belts with an emergency locking retractor (ELR) enhance the safety.

Verdict

This is a fuel-efficient and capable car that appeals to driving enthusiasts. With the manual transmission, you can enjoy this car even more if you are into driving. The availability of spare parts is a bit tricky since 1.0L turbo engine parts are not locally-manufactured. Other body parts from the local Civic cannot be fitted to this model either due to differences in sizes. Therefore, one has to keep in mind that spare parts are not readily available. The owner uses Hi-Octane in his car, which can be difficult to find on long journies to remote areas. Resale of this car will also be difficult compared to the local variants of Civic. Maintenance and servicing can be done from the 3S dealerships of Honda.
