Has The Govt Cut Metro Bus Fare to Half?
Over the last couple of days, multiple media outlets and social media pages reported that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has cut the metro bus fare in half. As per reports, the premier announced this during his speech on Sunday. He further said that this cut would give a bit of relief to the masses.
So, Is Fare Reduced?
We were also excited over this news, but we decided to confirm it before reporting. So, we called Metro Bus Lahore’s helpline, and the official told us that the premier has indeed made the announcement. “But we have not received any official notification yet,” he said, which means the fare is still the same, Rs.30 per ride.
The official told us that the authority will inform the public as soon as it gets an official confirmation from the government. Hence, people have to wait a bit for this relief.
New Metro Buses
Last year, the previous Punjab government decided to replace the old Metro buses with a fleet of new buses. As per the media report, 64 new Metro buses arrived in Lahore after clearance and started to be driven on the route.
The government signed an agreement with VEDA Transit Solutions and a group of local banks to replace the old fleet of 64 buses operating at the 27 kilometers long track of the Lahore Metro Bus System. As per the report, the Bank of Punjab was the key adviser and arranger of this agreement.
Since the launch of the Metro buses in Lahore in 2013, the public has grown fond of the service. Why wouldn’t they? It’s convenient, comfortable, and cheap. You can go from one end to the other end of Lahore in just 30 rupees. The Metro bus service is a lifesaver for everyone, students, workers, and even families.
