Caretaker Punjab Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi has shared good news for the people of Lahore, especially those who regularly travel to DHA, Cantt, and Walton Road. In a tweet, Naqvi announced the dates when Cavalry Ground Underpass, Walton Road, CBD Main Boulevard and Ghora Chowk will be open for public traffic.
“Just inspected Walton Road, Cavalry Ground Underpass, and CBD main boulevard – all set, Alhamdulillah,” he wrote in the tweet. Sharing the exact dates, the CM wrote:
- Walton Road: Ready to roll by 31st January 2024.
- Cavalry Ground Underpass: Opening in 4 days on 26th November 2023.
- CBD Main Boulevard unveiling on 31st December 2023.
- Ghora Chowk Flyover is set to be opened to the public by 7th December 2023.

The construction work on these projects was started in September 2023 to ensure smooth traffic in that area. These areas, especially Cavalry Ground Chowk, faced massive traffic jams during rush hours, and there used to be long lines of vehicles at that signal. This caused problems for daily commuters and a direct threat to the environment. The demand for an underpass at Cavalry was quite an old one, and the Ghora Chowk flyover was also on the cards for some time.
Walton Road is a major link between DHA and Ferozepur Road and used to face heavy traffic throughout the day. With the completion of these projects, there would be a nonstop flow of traffic, reducing the burden on adjacent roads. The companies and authorities have ensured speedy work on them and completed them in a span of around three months only.
Earlier, the caretaker government completed the Kalma Chowk underpass project to ensure smooth traffic from Kalma Chowk to Liberty Market and Fridous Market. Let’s see how these underpasses and flyovers will impact overall traffic and help reduce traffic jams.
