Hyundai has moved on to the 4th generation Tucson in European and American markets. But the old 3rd generation model is still on sale in many markets, including Pakistan. The Korean-made 3rd gen Tucson went through the Latin New Car Assessment Programme (NCAP) test and failed it horribly.

The news is of course sad, but also funny because only a month ago the latest 4th gen Tuscon scored 5/5 stars in the European NCAP safety test

3rd Gen Hyundai Tucson Latin Crash Test

The old 3rd gen Tucson has a number of standard safety features such as dual front airbags, seat belt pretensioners, ISOFIX child seat mounts in the rear seats, and driver side seat belt warning. Still, the car performed poorly in the Latin NCAP crash test 2021. Here are the detailed results.

  • Adult Occupant Protection: 51%
  • Child Occupant Protection: 4%
  • Pedestrian Protection: 50%
  • Safety Assist: 7%

It was the car’s poor child occupant protection and lack of safety assist features that got it the overall rating of zero.

4th Gen Hyundai Tucson Euro Crash Test

The latest 4th gen Tucson is loaded with safety features like dual front airbags, side airbags, seat-belt pretensioners and load limiters, seat-belt reminder system, lane assist, Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB), and speed assistance. The car performed exceptionally well in the Euro NCAP crash test 2021. Here are the detailed results.

  • Adult Occupant Protection: 86%
  • Child Occupant Protection: 87%
  • Pedestrian Protection: 66%
  • Safety Assist: 70%

We have the 3rd generation Hyundai Tucson in Pakistan, the one that failed the crash test. Zero star rating is a big red flag that nobody saw coming. But now that they know Hyundai should replace the old 3rd gen Tucson with the latest 4th gen model ASAP.

What do you think about the old Tucson losing and the new Tucson winning it all in the safety tests?

For latin american they are testing a lot of cars manufactured in Mexico, the quality of material and overall build is different compared to North American Standards, as well Europe and Asia, since we are in Asia we should focus of Asian NCAP, but it is interesting because even in Pakistan we know how much security is neglected.
