I have another one, not related to cars at all, but home ac, its an elderly neighbor lady who lives alone mostly.
Her daughter called in an ac repair outfit for a no run situation, this outfit has shining google reviews etc, they did their job for half day and started up the system and left, cur a month later the old lady rang my doorbell to ask me to jumpstart her car on a sunday morning (church time I think)
Anyway, i drag my cables over with my booster car (gadhagari) and get it running. I hear her ac condensing unit is making a horrible droning noise. I ask her if she wants me to look into that racket, she agrees and says it doesnt cool as before, the last mechanic handed her a nice estimate of a new 5 ton unit.
So i get to the unit and see that the outer cover screws are missing and its duct taped closed, lol
I pop it open and take a look, noting the new cap for the compressor and also the fan, (fan is new btw) but it below the damn shroud piece (what the hell?)
I clean the whole condenser with water as its quite dirty and then start it up, still rattling from the compressor, note the cap and relay, then google the compressor part number, its a copeland 54,000 btu single phase 230v scroll unit, it should take a 80uf cap.
I see the tech installed a 35uf cap (facepalm), then see that the idiot tech installed a 7.5uf cap on the fan while the fan literally says 5uf on its body, he also didnt remove the drain plug from the motor. (Rain water was in it, nice!!!!)
So i pack it up as its sunday, left her a note that ill fix it monday, went and bought a proper 80/5 uf cap and relay,
Armed with my handy tools and some wire and spade terminals I install the capacitor, correct the fan blade so it sits in the shroud, install the cabinet with screws and apply some car wax to it too. (Shiny)
Start it up and the compressor is quiet as a mouse, fan is now blowing quiet too (due to being at correct rpm and blades inside shroud), fan was blowing hot/warm too now, it was blowing tepid air before.
Go inside and the vents are shooting chilled air like it should.
So the google review outfit were either dumbasses or crooks.
I got paid in cash for the parts and in baked goods for labour,
