Project Roof Rack
I was researching for last few months, watching YouTube videos for DIY roof racks, also looked at branded ones, and their reviews to learn about pros and cons about a design.
Finalized what type of roof rack I want, and decision included following points:
- Should be able to take max load of about 80KG when parked, 30 to 40 KG max when moving.
- Cover all roof of Pajero Mini, rectangular design, not square.
- Low profile design, keep close to roof, short walls
- Design should allow mounting of roof top tent, future DIY project
- Total weight of roof rack should be under 10KG
Sharing progress of work so far:
Supplies arrived from market, all 18 gauge,
Got the molding done at metal market where I bought the 3/4 tubes, complete frame just needed one weld,
Here, my bother made a mistake, he cut the frame further, to make it sit between roof rails, rather on them. The problem with Pajero Mini's roof is, its wide from front, and narrow from rear. Rail also follow same design.
This is the first build, and as Sajjad uncle already asked me to make one for his Suzuki Jimny too, so we decided to keep making this one, to fit on Jimny where only need is to carry bit of luggage. We brought the vehicle, and placed roof rack on it, and made sure it looked good, and took measurements for fittings.
This design idea was by Najam, looks cool, and make the front and rear of roof rack distinguishable,
This is all of photos for now. We've also designed a simple crossbar mounts to roof rails using metal hinges, haven't taken photos of them yet but will share soon.
I hope you guys liked the design. Excited to complete it soon and give it a try before sending it to powder coating.
