And after Tucson , Sportage is also recalled for the same fire hazard issue. Sportage owners MUST contact dealer rightaway and check and verify if their vehicle is part of the recall and need remediation ASAP . You can try this link as well to check >> https://kia-luckymotorcorp.com/vehicle-verification/
The recall service campaign would NOT take long as it will require replacing certain fuse in the engine compartment fuse box. A software patch might also be implemented.
Keep in mind the same recall as in US, Australia, companies have even asked owners to park their vehicles away from home as it can catch fire even when the vehicle is shut down with engine in OFF position. So, your timely attention is required.

After Nishat recall of Tucson, we categorically mentioned that KIA must look into this matter and do a recall as both models share identical components and globally both models are affected with the same recalls.
Hyundai Nishat did recall Tucson last month and now Lucky Motors also followed what we have been asking in our previous posts time and again.
I have my personal opinion and fear that all local fires [ 2 in Sportage and 1 in Tucson ] might have been caused by the the problematic recall components. Again unfortunately there is no independent investigation agency in the country who can look into these matters.
In our previous writing, we stressed this matter number of times that both Kia Lucky Motors and Hyundai-Nishat must investigate these local reported fire [ Sportage and Tucson ] keeping in mind the situation of recalls overseas. It should be taken seriously and companies must not declared these just a one off random fire or blaming any aftermarket accessory causing the fire.
Good to see local companies took initiative NOW although it took them too long to take action.
One thing we can see in the care campaign both from Hyundai-Nishat and KIA Lucky motors that they refrained from sharing a much detailed situation which can occur because of this short-circuit and the one which we can read publicly and officially declared and released by KIA-Hyundai in their overseas recalls . That is โ short-circuit can lead to an increased risk of an engine compartment fire โ.
These companies MUST be very open and clear with their customers about issues / recalls and what can happen. This is important especially in safety related recalls.
Some background info
If you guys remember, we have been reporting extensively about the fires. Below are the three fires reported in Pakistan in chronological order.
1st fire, March 2020 > Sportage
2nd fire , Jan 2021 > Tucson
3rd fire , May 2021 > Sportage
When Sportage fire was reported in March 2020, I had serious reservation about the way KIA PK responded to the fire incident and blamed everything on the aftermarket accessory , you can read about it here > https://www.facebook.com/groups/PakWheelsOfficial/permalink/2897201677061803/
Then Tucson went on fire and I rewrote a detailed post again on the same issue of fire , you can read about it here > https://www.facebook.com/groups/PakWheelsOfficial/permalink/3751515478297081/
Then recently another Sportage went on fire and I wrote about it again here > https://www.facebook.com/groups/PakWheelsOfficial/permalink/4076776415770984/
In all of these three posts, I have been STRESSING that KIA and HYUNDAI must investigate the local fires and donโt just shove it under the carpet being just a random fire or blaming the owners. Every time there were individuals who also blamed an aftermarket accessory under my post and called me like some sort of propaganda.
Every time I pushed for the fact that these fires in Pakistan should be investigated for causes and companies should make sure that a Pakistan Assembled KIA or Hyundai must not use any of the engines or other recalled components which has a fire risk. Pakistan import engines and other mechanicals and electrical for local assembly so, these locals vehicles which went on fire should be tracked down and parts batch and lots must be evaluated to eliminate the reasons.
As a background, As a backup info, Hyundai/Kia reached a 760 Million dollars settlement in United States after a US government agency NHTSA completed its investigation into engine fires of Kia/ Hyundai vehicles in United States. NOT only this , Hyundai/ Kia were additionally fined $210 Million in civil penalties after US safety regulators said that companies failed to recall vehicles for engine fires in a timely fashion. There were over 3100 engine fires and 103 reported injuries and in all these cases , the fire started in engine bay without the vehicle being in any accident/ crash itself. The US fires were reported [ for various reasons] in Hyundai/ Kia 2.0L and 2.4 liter engines under various models from 2011 to 2019 which includes, Sonata, Santa FE, Sportage , Sorento, Tucson, Optima. Total of approx 5 million Kia/ Hyundai brand models are having issues in USA.
Last year, Hyundai and KIA has also recalled their certain models in United States as well as in Australia recently over issues with ABS and brake fluid leak problem which can also cause fire. The problem is so serious that, KIA and HYUNDAI have asked the owners of problem vehicles / recalled units to park their vehicles outside their homes.
This recall includes Tucson and Sportage from model year 2016 to 2021, beside various other models of Kia , Hyundai and Genesis brand. As per the companies "vehicles may have an increased risk of an electrical short circuit within the ABS module when it is exposed to moisture, which in turn can lead to an increased risk of an engine compartment fire". As a remedy to the issue, dealers are installing a FUSE kit and possibly updating a software patch.
Lastly ;
Unfortunately , in our country there is no such independent agency who can take up such cases and investigate the technical problems and issues . In the end its between the owner and the car companies / dealerships. The poor owner of the vehicle is always at the receiving end with no actual help and remedy to his problems and concerns. It's also concerning that because of lack of any independent agency locally, these issues are investigated by the dealer / car companies themselves and they release a report and its highly unlikely that those investigations would be neutral.
Pakistan should not be dumping ground. A Pakistani customer need same level of commitment from these companies as well as consumer protection via Government agencies as they offer overseas and mandated by law. Let's hope we know more about this new particular incident.
