Next big thing was to retrofit the headlights, which per the instructions is a 4 to 5 hour job, but it took me about 7-8 hours as I was doing it for the first time and required re-wiring and replacing the FRM module;
Original Xenon headlights are great, but have a very different look; some original photos for comparison;
Part of the bumper and side skirt and the fender flare had to come off before the fender liner can be removed;
Headlights removed
OEM retrofit wiring harness
Wiring ran and zip tied to the existing wiring harness.
2 new wires needed to be ran and switched in the headlight connector
FRM module updated - FRM 44 is what's needed for LED headlights - Retrofit wiring was run to the FRM module and the fuse box on the passenger side
New headlight installed
In action
LED headlights completely change the front end of the X5M/X6M.
It was cold and I was in a rush to wrap everything up (F15 X5 needed some basic maintenance), so I skipped taking photos and got to work - below is the final look with headlights installed. Typically, LED headlights need to be coded in the FRM module, but since I replaced the it, I didn't have to code anything and they worked as expected.
