One of my friends sold his X5M and it had a banged up front carbon fiber lip that I got from him and decided to repair it.
Our Ms
Process of repairing the lip.
Original condition
This is what happens when you hit a cone at 110mph
Flaking clear coat
First go with a sander to sand off the clear coat
I did not have the tools so I made do with what I had, repairing the cracks.
Used carbon fiber fabric to make two new brackets and reinforce the inner of the lip.
It takes skill to balance that thing!
Making of the brackets.
I thought I can chop some fabric to skin the entire lip as forged carbon fiber but I got tired of sanding half way, so I gave up! Lol
Repairing other cracks
Reinforced the inside with additional layers of carbon fiber
I think the brackets turned out fine, with 3 layers of fabric, they were rock solid.
And on it goes.
One of the edge was missing a chunk, so chopped flakes were useful
Still have some more sanding to do and ready for a clear coat afterward
Repaired area, visible but better than before
This will be the finished look after clear coat
