After the rusted body of Tesla Cybertrucks, another defect related to the accelerator pedals surfaced on social media, and nearly 3,878 trucks have been recalled, offering full replacement.

These flat-bed trucks, with a body style known as an exoskeleton, started to deliver in November 2023 after a two-year production delay. Their overall rugged design aimed to revolutionize the electric vehicle landscape with their high-technology, long-range, and efficient load-towing capacity.

Faulty Accelerator Pedal

According to an update by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), defective throttles get stuck in the interior trim due to a non-compliant lubricant used. This defect does not cause a delay in braking but leads to the dislodging of the accelerator pedal when a high force is applied.

The recall includes all the Cybertrucks manufactured from November 13, 2023, to April 4, 2024, under the trim level of ‘all Model Year (‘MY’) 2024.

NHTSA further shared that this issue was initially reported to Tesla on March 31, followed by the second report on April 3. After which, the automaker completed internal investigations till April 12 before issuing the recall. However, the company clarified that no accidents, car crashes, deaths, or injuries have been reported so far.

Tesla has notified all its dealers to hold the sale of Cybertrucks for now and stalled the new orders. The OEM is also committed to reworking or completely changing the gas pedals of all Cybertruck owners without any charge to them.

Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla Inc., claimed the Cybertruck as one the best “off-road vehicles,” competing against the GMC Hummer EV, RAM 1500 REV, and Ford F-150 Lightening along with accolading the truck as bulletproof, rust-proof, and whatnot. But just in a span of 4 to 5 months, its users have reported about the rusting exterior, broken windshield, and dying batteries.
