We previously discussed the upcoming launch of the new Maruti Suzuki Swift, sharing its anticipated specifications and features. After its debut at the 2023 Japan Mobility Show, the wait is finally over – the fourth-generation Swift has officially hit Indian roads!

Dimensions & Variants

The new Swift boasts a slightly larger footprint compared to its predecessor. It measures 3,860 mm in length, 1,695 mm in width, and 1,500 mm in height. This translates to a 15 mm increase in length, 30 mm in height, and a 40 mm reduction in width. However, the wheelbase remains unchanged.

The 2024 Maruti Swift will be available in five variants: LXi, VXi, VXi (O), ZXi, and ZXi+.

More Efficient Powertrain

Under the hood, the new Swift gets a new 1.2-litre Z series, naturally aspirated petrol engine. This engine is paired with a five-speed manual or AMT gearbox. The new engine makes significant strides in fuel efficiency, delivering a claimed mileage of 24.8 kmpl for manual variants and an impressive 25.75 kmpl for AMT variants, a 14% improvement!

Exterior Design – Changes & Updates

The refreshed design incorporates several notable changes. The front features a redesigned bumper, a new grille, and updated headlamps equipped with LED DRLs. Additionally, the blacked-out ORVMs, roof, and pillars add a touch of sporty elegance.

Moving towards the rear, the hatchback gets a redesigned tailgate and a fresh bumper with a skid plate. The global-spec model gets an integrated spoiler housing a stop light, while the LED tail lights now boast distinctive C-shaped DRLs for a modern touch. The 15-inch wheels are new as well, but they adopt a more conventional design compared to the stylish five U-spoke design of the previous model.

Interior Enhancements

The most striking change in the interior is the introduction of a floating 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, reminiscent of the Grand Vitara, Baleno, and Fronx. This relocation necessitates a redesigned center console, while the steering wheel and gear lever appear to be carried over from the outgoing Swift.

While an all-digital driver’s display would have been a welcome addition, the new Swift retains the dual-circular analogue display with a small information screen in the center, a common feature in other Maruti models. A noteworthy addition is the introduction of rear AC vents, a feature missing in the previous generation.

What could have been a new change in the new Swift is the driver’s display which could have been all-digital throwing out more information. What you get here is a dual-circular analogue driver’s display with a small screen in the middle which is seen in other Maruti models.  Debuting for the first time in the Swift is the rear AC vents which was given a miss in the previous-gen.

It also boats standard along with halogen projector headlamps and LED tail lamps. Higher up the trims it also gets an LED projector, 15-inch alloy wheels, wireless charger, auto headlamps, rear USB ports, leather-wrapped steering wheel, Arkamys sound system, and cruise control.

Mileage

In the department of fuel efficiency, the new Swift result in an impressive 14 percent increase with a mileage of 24.8 kmpl for the MT variants and 25.75 kmpl for AMT.

What’s More?

Even in the base variant, the new Swift comes equipped with halogen projector headlamps and LED tail lamps. Higher trims offer features like LED projector headlamps, 15-inch alloy wheels, a wireless charger, automatic headlamps, rear USB ports, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, an Arkamys sound system, and cruise control.

Safety First

In terms of safety, the global Swift comes equipped with six airbags, tyre pressure monitoring, ABS with EBD and brake assist, electronic stability control, and hill hold control. Advanced features like lane keeping assist, blind spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control, and lane departure warning systems are also available on the global model. However, it remains to be seen if these advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) will be offered in India.

Colour Options

It will also be offered in nine distinct colour options, including both monotone and dual-tone choices.

Overall, the new Maruti Suzuki Swift 2024 presents a compelling package. It offers a refreshed design, a more fuel-efficient engine, a feature-rich interior, and a focus on safety. With its wider range of colours and variants, the new Swift promises to cater to a diverse range of buyers.
