“Jahaaz” Mercedes W140 Golden Tank – Owner Review
Today’s blog features our very own Suneel Munj and his Golden Tank, the Mercedes S Class W140. One of the most popular cars in the luxury segment of its time, this W140 model is still loaded with many features absent from numerous luxury sedans produced locally. Join us as Suneel shares his experience with the classic W140.
Interior
The Golden Tank’s interior was ahead of its time, comprising several features that could be compared to local sedans today. For instance, the digital duo-zone climate control, memory electric and massage seats, auto windows, premium soundproofing, soft closed doors, master lock, reading lamps, auto-dimming mirror, an onboard phone, a sunroof, and reclining rear seats all bear witness to this fact. Moreover, considered the safest car of its era, this W140 has multiple airbags in all interior dimensions.
Also, the car has ample storage space in the dashboard with two compartments, one of which can be locked with a key. Other impressive features comprise cruise control, footbrake, headlight adjustment, headlight wipers, telescopic steering wheel, suspension seats, Alcantara paneling, adjustable armrest, and various gauges. These gauges include the fuel tank, oil temperature, oil pressure, and speedometer.
Furthermore, ample space is offered for rear legroom and the trunk. Also, the door panels are beautifully crafted with wood and leather to add a premium touch to the car.
Price
Bought in January 2021, the car cost Suneel around Rs 3.8 million. After purchase, costs are around Rs 1.5 million.
Engine and Fuel Average
This W140 has a 3.2L engine, giving a fuel average of around 5-6 km/l.
Maintenance Cost and Parts Availability
Every three months, the oil change process costs around Rs 30,000, which includes oil, air filter, and oil filter. One key issue is the unavailability of parts due to being an outdated model.
