Earlier today, media reports started circulating that Chery Pakistan is planning to launch two cars in the country in 2024. As per those reports, the said cars are Omoda E5 and Jaecoo J7 PHEV, to be introduced in the local market under the banner of Chery. So, we decided to ask around and dig up more information about it.

Which Cars Are Coming?

As per our sources, the number of cars is no confirmed, however, Chery Pakistan will be bringing Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEVs) and Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEVs). “The car assembler will launch HEV and PHEVs of Tiggo Series,” the reliable sources told us. Furthermore, Omoda E5 and Jaecoo J7 will also be launched in Pakistan, an electric and PHEV vehicle, respectively.

Expected Time of Launch

As per our sources, the company will introduce these new vehicles in the 3rd quarter of this year. “First the cars of Tiggo series will be launched and then other two will be introduced,” the sources said, adding that the company is prepared to hold these launches.

It means that local market will receive more HEV and PHEVs this year, which is good for local consumers considering high prices of fuel. Earlier, Pakistan got hybrid cars by Haval, Hyundai and Toyota with H6, Santa Fe and Corolla Cross. These cars are liked by the consumers due to their fuel average. The future of the automotive industry is electric and hybrid as a number of companies are planning to launch more EVs, while on the other hand auto giants like Toyota are more focused on hybrid technology.

Pakistani market have and will receive both types of vehicles and it depends on individual choice, which individual likes which type. Hopefully, these planned launches by Chery be a hit giving more choices to the local customer.

Well the economics of a 10 million plus hybrid does not add up.
When actually does it starts paying back.
    Let’s take an example
    A normal car 7.5 million
A hybrid 11 million for example.
    Difference 3.5 million.
    How many years payback.

No wait let’s put the extra 3.5 million in fixed deposit and get 35,000 per month.

I leave the maths to you :->

Agreed with Omar. I also commenting same since years that Hybrid/ PHEV, EVs are of no use for Pakistanis as per existing facts, stats and figures. Buy a car worth 8-9 Million and save extra money 💰 in Bank. 15 Million Santa Fe and 20 Million Prius 2023 is a JOKE.

When the curent ICE Chery lineup is struggling, what’s the point to launch some HEV models in a declining car’s market ?
We also need to take into consideration, the market is already full of HEV with compact SUV like Corolla Cross and Haval , and midsize SUV like Santa fe available with seven seats.
These Chery will be dead on arrivals.
