Suzuki Alto Crosses 5 Million Units Sales Record In India

Suzuki Alto has remained immensely popular on both sides of the border since its launch for its pocket-friendly price, exceptional fuel economy, and decent passenger capacity. For the same reason, it has ranked number- one among the 15 best-selling cars of 2024. While the Hyundai Ilo and Suzuki Swift sit in the second and third positions, respectively, Alto continues to be the highest-selling car for 17 years with a cumulative sale of over 5 million units.

Suzuki Alto – The Top Seller

The Maruti Suzuki Alto was launched in 2000 and received multiple updates and facelifts in the years between 2000-2022. The Alto 800 was discontinued in March 2023 after an official reform surfaced from the makers of Suzuki. The current model on sale is the Alto K10 which comes with a 1 Litre K10 petrol engine which produces 66HP and 89Nm of peak torque. The engine is mated to either a 5-speed manual transmission or a 5-speed automatic transmission.

Another option available for sale is the CNG variant, which produces 56HP and 82Nm of torque and comes with a pairing of 5-speed MT. Alto K10 is available at a price of 3.99 Lacs and goes up to 5.96 Lacs depending upon the trim levels in India.

Other Best-Selling Cars From Maruti Suzuki

Other best-selling vehicles that come from the Maruti Suzuki include the Suzuki Swift, launched in 2005 and won the best-selling car title in 2023. At the same time, other models include Wagon R, Dzire, Omni, Baleno, EECO, Brezza, and Suzuki Ertiga. Stats show that the Japanese automaker’s sales are all flying colors across the border.

Besides Suzuki, Hyundai is the second go-to car brand for Indian families. The Hyundai Ilo is the best seller, with 3.3 million units sold in the three generations of this hatchback. Other famous cars are the Hyundai Santro, Hyundai i20, Hyundai Creta, and Mahindra Scorpio.
